Our first church service was held on October 8,2006 at the Horne Enterprises building. Ronnie Treadway brought the message.
There were 28 people present.
The following Sunday, 44 people were there, and we chose a name for our church - Cross Creek Cowboy Church. Later that month Bro, Kenny Sanders came to preach for us and stayed to help with some of the decisions we needed to make as a church.
On Dec 17, we moved into a more permanent home in an old furniture store on Hiram Street, and we had our first baptisms- two of them. Later that month, we voted to be in the SBC and SBTC, and we chose a Visionary Team to look for a future home.
In Jan, 2007, we voted in our church by-laws and elected a Pastor Search Team. Our average weekly attendance was 102.
We held a membership drive in Feb. and 63 people joined the church, Bro.Kenny became our pastor, and First Baptist Church of Linden became our sponsor church.
In March, we voted to purchase 51 acres of land on Hwy 77 from the Brooks family. First National Bank of Linden agreed to finance it for us. We elected five Team Leaders (Elders): Ronnie Treadway,
Joey Berry, Eric Cunningham, Rob Dotson and Doug Lance.
Later Don Kelley, Sonny Fletcher, and Matt Baker joined them.
On June 11, we closed on the land and on Aug 26, we
dedicated this land to the Lord by building an altar of stones,
placed by each family in the church.
In Feb 2008, First National Bank of Linden made the funds available for a building program and in March, the building began.
When Bro.Kenny left in April, we chose a Pastor Search Team to look for a "cowboy" pastor. In May, Bro.Todd Elliott came to preach for us. In August, we asked him to be our pastor and he accepted.
He and his family have been a blessing.
We worked hard all summer on the building, even though some days the temperature was more than 100 degrees. Finally, on Sept 21, we moved in. At our first service on Sept 28, we dedicated the
church to the Lord, and we acknowledged all those who had helped us along the way. Our membership on that day was 113. The following Sunday, we had our first baptism in this new church.
In Dec, we held our first event here - a live Nativity scene. It was a very cold and windy night, but some very dedicated people stuck it out. Our average weekly attendance for Dec was 112 and our membership at the end of the year was 131.
The church band was in concert at Music City Texas Theater in Linden on Feb 14,2009. It was very successful with all proceeds going to the building fund. The next day, church attendance was
164! Way to go, band!! Average attendance each week was 125.
The arena was finished in Feb and on March 1, it was dedicated to the Lord. On March 7 we held our first event there-
a "Play Day" for the kids, young and old.
On March 22,2009 , Cross Creek Cowboy Church moved from Mission status to being a fully Sovereign Church, on its own, following a motion form the Elders, a call to vote by Bro..Todd, and a vote by the church body. There were 92 people present, including some visitors from other churches. Church charter membership today is 155.
